Household waste management centre

Customer:  Dorset County Council – Bridport

The works comprised construction of a waste transfer hall with separate loading bay. We assisted in the value engineering process which involved changing the steel frame of the waste transfer hall to a portal-frame structure, which ultimately provided savings on assembly time and costs.

Value engineering initiatives included

• Changing the steel frame of the waste transfer hall to a portal-frame structure, saving on assembly time and costs.

• Improving the ground conditions with lime-stabilisation allowing the access road to be built without wasteful import and disposal.

• Working with the council’s environmental health team to remediate the site, burying Japanese Knotweed to a depth of 6m, in-line with current legislation, avoiding disposal costs.

• Switching to a single service conduit, in lieu of four, achieving a five-figure saving for our client.
